The Swedish Cup, an open tournament for all classes, was held in Trollhätten/Sweden from September 08-09th. It was the first official tournament by the Swedish Federation in which the adidas Electronic Body Protector was in full use in all weight classes.

More than 200 male and female participants, Seniors, Juniors and Cadets, Advanced and Beginners, had the chance to get their first impression of the functionality of this trendsetting product. The perfect organization by the Swedish Federation was exemplary and assured ideal conditions for the tournament.

In addition to the fascinating and exciting competition, all athletes and spectators were positively surprised by the objectivity and transparency afforded by the adidas Electronic Body Protector system. The hit levels for each category were easily adjusted through the software in accordance with acknowledged guidelines and without delay for the next weight class. The long needed transparency for all participants and the audience regarding the question of the validity of hits or punches was solved by immediate registration on the scoreboard. Without any questions or second guessing. Only a truly substantial kick was rewarded with a scored point. A combination of good technique, accuracy, speed and power was the key to success to reach the given hit level.

The president of the Swedish Federation Mr. Emir Dizdarevic said: "I was absolutely astounded by the adidas Electronic Scoring System. The transparency for all, referees, athletes and spectators alike, was incredible due to the obvious and uncompromising objectivity of the EBP. And, it proved to be very reliable. We have decided to use the adidas system in all future, official tournaments." This is the future of Taekwondo. It will take the sport to a new professional level and make it even more attractive for media and public. Another important step to keep TKD in the public eye and as an Olympic Sport.
