An interesting study was published in the last WTF News regarding the profile of male and female Taekwondo athletes. The basic material was collected at the Olympic Games 2000 in Sydney. Some of the results are:
- 98% of all scoring techniques were kicks
- offensive techniques were generally more succesful
- the average height of male winners is greater than the category average
- male and female winners tended to be younger than their weight category average
- in all male categories except the heavy weight the average weight of male winners was greater that the weight category average
- in heavy weight it was vice versa (male and female)
The study was conducted by Dr. Mohsen Kazemi, Associate Professor at the Canadian Memorial chiropractic College. He can be contacted for more detailed information at mkazemi@cmcc.ca or drkazemi@sympatico.ca .
