ETU ad hoc Media Committee meets EUROVISION/EBU officials

Talks about broadcasting European Championships.

On 27 November 2012, an ETU delegation under supervision of ETU president Pragalos visited the headquarters of the Eurovision/European Broadcasting Union. The subject of discussion was the possibilities to broadcast the ETU European Championships on TV. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Ingo Hannesson (Head of sports rights division) and Mrs. Beatriz Pastor Puga (Sport rights manager).

The ETU delegation got an extensive presentation of what EUROVISION/EBU core business entails. In short, they buy TV rights form sport federations and make a TV signal available for several TV stations in Europe but also outside Europe. For ETU, the talks are focused on whether or not EUROVISION/EBU is interested in taekwondo competitions at the highest ETU level (Senior European Championships) and what the possibilities are to interest broadcasting stations all over the world to put taekwondo competitions on their broadcasting schedule.

Next to that EUROVISION/EBU also offers possibilities to broadcast ETU events via the internet, in which new media options are explored. This introductory meeting will be followed up in the near future with a meeting on which the talks will go more into depth and various possibilities on cooperation will be discussed.
